Early Days

Created by Sheila 3 years ago

We are Alastair’s cousins, brother and sister, Gavin and Sheila. We live in Edinburgh and though we could not have a great deal of interaction with him, the whole extended family in Scotland, children of Alastair’s aunts and uncles – Ian (daughter Pat, now deceased), Ethel (our Mum), Molly (son, Lawrence) and Arthur (sons Alexander and John) much enjoyed our family gatherings which included Ally and his younger brother Jamie when they were young. Sheila and husband, Gordon, spent part of lockdown sorting family photos and relished the number of times Al, Ally and Jamie were able to be with us at Christmas and for summer barbeques.

We were always so impressed with his confidence, gained from the loving parentage of Al Senior and mum, Judy and the various educational establishments  which helped form  the man that we all knew and loved.

We well remember meeting up with him and young Emma in Edinburgh several years ago when a visit to a Pizza Express brought the Essex and Lothian Fairweather clans together for a fun evening for young and older alike! I remember Ally saying how much he was delighting in – and adding to - the Fairweather humour, which was being bounced around the table with gusto!

What a happy day it was when Alastair and Ann were married in Paisley Abbey! The atmosphere was amazing, with so many friends and family sharing the happiness of such a wonderful young couple.

When Ally phoned to tell us of the birth of young Emma, the delight and the pride and love he had for his wife and baby daughter was so emotional that we cried down the phone with him.

An amazing, brave, clever bloke who rarely seemed to baulk at any task, he will be forever in our loving memories.
